The Eichmann Trial Trailer

“This is an unusual defendant…” Madman Films in Australia has posted a new trailer for the documentary film titled The Eichmann Trial, a look back at this famous trial in 1961. This doc already premiered back in 2023, playing at the Miami Jewish Film Festival and a few other fests. It was released in the US to watch on VOD but is only now just getting released in Australia – we missed it then but it seems like a fascinating trip back into the past. In 1961, history was on trial… in a trial that made history. Just 15 years after the end of WWII, the Holocaust had been largely forgotten. That changed with the capture of Adolf Eichmann, a former Nazi officer hiding in Argentina. With rarely-seen archival footage, The Eichmann Trial shows just what happened at this major event in history at a trial held in Jerusalem. The first effort in a decades-long attempt to combat Holocaust denial – with a chilling look at how Eichmann tried to outsmart prosecutors. Told entirely through archival footage of the trial itself and attending news coverage, The Eichmann Trial documents one of the most shocking trials in history, and the birth of Holocaust awareness and education.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Elliot Levitt’s doc The Eichmann Trial, direct from YouTube:

Just 15 years after the end of World War II, the Holocaust was already considered ancient history. Barely taught in high school or college courses, the attempted extermination of Jewish people was starting to be forgotten outside of the still-young refuge of Israel. All that changed in May 1960 when Adolf Eichmann, a former Nazi officer hiding in Argentina, was captured and whisked to Jerusalem to stand trial. Over the course of a nearly 4-month proceeding in 1961, filmed in its entirety and broadcast worldwide on TV, many learned for the first time about the extent and horror of Nazi atrocities. During Eichmann’s fiery cross-examination, a debate over disobedience to orders and the banality of evil began which continues to this day. The Eichmann Trial doc film is directed by editor / filmmaker Elliott Levitt, directing his very first film; he also edited the films The Passengers, Citizen Athlete, Elvis Rocky & Me: The Carol Connors Story. This initially premiered at the 2023 Miami Jewish Film Festival a few years ago. It already opened in the US in 2024 and is available on VOD now.
