DoorDash CMO Kofi Amoo-Gottfried Will Step Down After 7 Years

DoorDash chief marketer Kofi Amoo-Gottfried will step down in May after seven years in the role, the company confirmed to ADWEEK.

Amoo-Gottfried announced the decision in a LinkedIn post, expressing his desire to spend more time with his kids before they leave for college.

“How we spend our time has tremendous power,” he wrote. “In many ways, it’s all the power we have.”

Amoo-Gottfried, 46, joined DoorDash in 2019 as vp of marketing, becoming the company’s first CMO in 2021. Prior to his tenure at the restaurant-delivery company, he held several senior marketing and strategy roles at Facebook, FCB New York, Publicis, and Wieden+Kennedy.

Throughout Amoo-Gottfried’s time at the helm of DoorDash’s marketing department, the company has become a leader in the food-delivery category, creating a strong lead over competitors including Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Instacart.

DoorDash represented 67% of market share in 2025, according to Statista. In February, it was beating Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Instacart on purchase consideration, brand favorability, buzz, and awareness metrics, according to marketing intelligence firm Morning Consult.

“We’re deeply grateful for the vision and leadership he brought to building the DoorDash brand and business, and the world-class team behind it,” Prabir Adarkar, president and COO of DoorDash, said in a statement. “This has been a thoughtful and planned transition, and Kofi will remain through May to ensure a smooth handoff. We wish Kofi and his family continued success and fulfillment in what’s ahead.”

Amoo-Gottfried isn’t leaving empty-handed. The CMO led the company to the 2024 Titanium Grand Prix at Cannes Lions for the groundbreaking “DoorDash-All-The-Ads” campaign during Super Bowl 58.

Outside of Cannes, Amoo-Gottfried won AdColor’s Rockstar award in 2017. In 2020, he was an ADWEEK Brand Genius honoree and included on Business Insider’s 25 CMOs to watch. In 2023, Forbes named him to its Entrepreneurial CMO 50 list. Just last year, ADWEEK included him on a list of nine CMOs to watch during the year.
