It is a tradition for all young witches to leave their families on the night of a full moon and fly off into the wide world to learn their craft. When that night comes for Kiki, she embarks on her new journey with her sarcastic black cat, Jiji, landing the next morning in a seaside town, where her unique skills make her an instant sensation. Don’t miss this delightfully imaginative and timeless story of a young girl finding her way in the world. Kiki’s Delivery Service, also known as 魔女の宅急便 in Japanese, is written and directed and animated by Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki – his fifth feature film at the time just after My Neighbor Totoro (1988) and before Porco Rosso (1992). Based on an original story by Eiko Kadono. Produced by Hayao Miyazaki. Made by Studio Ghibli in 1989. With original music by Joe Hisaishi. The film initially opened in Japanese theaters in July 1989, only showing up in the US in December 1990. It has since become a beloved animated classic. GKids will host a 4K re-release of Miyazaki’s Kiki’s Delivery Service in IMAX exclusively in the US & Canada starting March 13th, 2026 this spring. Tickets are on sale now with showings in original Japanese language with subtitles + English dub versions. For info visit the official site.
