Grace Ives Announces New Album: Hear “Stupid Bitches”

Grace Ives back! It’s been too long. Ives, then a Brooklyn-based DIY pop artist, released a very cool debut album called Janky Star in 2022, and then she went quiet for a few years. Last November, Ives released three excellent songs — “Avalanche,” “Dance With Me,” and “My Mans” — that she recorded with producers Ariel Rechtshaid and John DeBold after relocating to Los Angeles. Now, Ives announces that all three of those tracks will be on her upcoming album Girlfriend, and she also drops a new single and announces a tour.

Ives recorded all of Girlfriend with Rechtshaid and DeBold, and the legend Dave Fridmann mixed the LP. She says that the album reflects a necessary exploratory period in her life. I definitely hear some exploration at work in Ives’ new single “Stupid Bitches.” It’s a bleary synthpop jam about putting yourself back together after a breakup, and its ultra-cool messiness strongly evokes the work of fellow Rechtshaid collaborator Sky Ferreira. I mean that as a big compliment. Below, check out “Stupid Bitches,” the Girlfriend tracklist, and Ives’ tour dates.
