Sony Pictures Television To Offer Targeted Buyouts

EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures Television is planning to offer buyouts to executives in select areas, sources tell Deadline. There has been confusion among Sony TV staffers this week, with many getting the impression that this would be a broad offering across the studio due to miscommunication, I hear.

In fact, the approaches will be targeted, limited to executives in areas identified as having less growth potential, sources said. The exit package offers are not expected to be based on length of tenure, which is often used as criteria in companywide buyouts. The exact number of people who will be impacted is unclear.

The voluntary buyouts are believed to be part of new Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Ravi Ahuja’s plans to shift the indie studio’s investments to growth areas of the business.

Sony’s television division has not gone through a major round of layoffs since the big restructuring in 2022 several months into Katherine Pope’s tenure as President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Studios.
