Versace just released Dario Vitale’s first (and last) collection campaign

Out of all the European fashion houses, Versace has had a pretty eventful 12 months. First up, back in March 2025, Donatella Versace said goodbye to her creative director role after 27 years at the top. She was quickly replaced by Dario Vitale, a former design director at Prada’s little sister brand, Miu Miu. Vitale presented his first collection in September 2025 to critical acclaim – but then came murmurings that Mrs P and the Prada Group were eyeing up an imminent bid to take over Versace. The deal went through in early December, and just two days later, Vitale was let go from his role after just eight months. Whew!

Today, Versace officially closes that chapter on the Vitale era, exclusively sharing with Dazed Vitale’s first and last collection campaign. Though the former creative director did previously unveil his ‘Embodied’ and Greca eyewear campaigns while working at the house, today’s release is his first proper ready-to-wear campaign, featuring designs from last September’s SS26 collection.

For the campaign, the house has tapped not one, not two, but three major creatives, enlisting Steven Meisel, Frank Lebon and Tania Franco Klein to shoot the images. “Three distinct visions, coalescing to stir a feeling and attitude,” the house said in its statement. “A dialogue invoking the fundamental essence of Versace: the confronting glamour of Steven Meisel, the raw intimacy of Frank Lebon, and the cinematic power of Tania Franco Klein.”

Of the three creatives, Meisel is, of course, the Versace icon. The American photographer has shot numerous campaigns over the past three decades, including Amber Valletta and Georgina Grenville as Stepford wives with huge blonde bouffants for AW00, and Madonna’s iconic SS95 shoot, where she played croquet and posed with babies. For this campaign, Meisel presents a mass of piled bodies, which has a touch of Ewen Spencer’s Skins photography about it.

Meisel’s work sits alongside Lebon and Klein’s, which the house describes as “bringing together behemoths, established and underground.” A former Dazed100 alum, Lebon is a multi-disciplinary artist known for his gritty music videos and fashion campaigns, while Klein is a Mexico City-based photographer “whose darkened glamour blurs the boundary between reality and performance.” The campaign is rounded out by its eclectic cast, featuring artist Drake Carr, model Selena Forrest and choreographer and dancer Lexee Smith.
