Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die Featurette

“The beginning of the movie starts in that more liberating, more loose, kind of honest framing – and then as the film evolves it taffy twists.” Opening in theaters soon is the awesome new original sci-fi movie Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die (view the trailer here) directed by the visionary filmmaker Gore Verbinski. While we wait for the release in a few weeks, the Alamo Drafthouse posted this 5-minute video featurette with Verbinski. He discusses the three films that inspired him the most while making GLHFDD. It’s always fun to hear from directors about their inspirations and this movie is especially intriguing because of how exciting it is. The three he brings up are: Dog Day Afternoon (1975) with Al Pacino; the anime classic Akira (1988) by Katsuhiro Ôtomo; and the 80s sci-fi Repo Man (1984) with Harry Dean Stanton & Emilio Estevez. In this movie, a man claiming to be from our AI-ravaged future takes the patrons of an iconic Los Angeles diner hostage in search of unlikely recruits in a crazy quest to save the world from technology. Fun critical commentary on Artificial Intelligence, computers, and how dumb we all are, with some wacky clever ideas following this guy from the future attempting to save humanity. Sam Rockwell stars as future man.

A “man from the future” (starring Sam Rockwell) appears at a Los Angeles diner with an urgent mission: to recruit the exact mix of disgruntled patrons needed for a one-night, six-block quest to stop a rogue artificial intelligence from destroying the world. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is directed by visionary American filmmaker Gore Verbinski, director of many iconic movies including Mousehunt, The Mexican, The Ring, The Weather Man, the original Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy: The Curse of the Black Pearl & Dead Man’s Chest & At World’s End, Rango, The Lone Ranger, and A Cure for Wellness. The screenplay is written by Matthew Robinson (of Monster Trucks, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Love and Monsters). Produced by Gore Verbinski, Robert Kulzer, Erwin Stoff, Oly Obst, Denise Chamian. This initially premiered at Fantastic Fest & Beyond Fest 2025 this fall. Briarcliff Ent. will debut Verbinski’s Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die in theaters nationwide starting February 13th, 2026 coming up. Who’s ready to rock with this?
