The NBA has postponed the match between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors following a fatal shooting in Minneapolis.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, January 24 on ABC, the game will now take place on Sunday, January 25 at 4:30 p.m. CT at Target Center, and will air on NBA TV.
“The National Basketball Association game scheduled for today between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center has been postponed,” read the statement shared by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“The decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community.”
Minnesota residents have been protesting the Donald Trump administration and the federal presence of ICE and border patrol officers in the state.
On Saturday, a video of a man being fatally shot by ICE agents went viral, which prompted more concerns about the safety of its citizens.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called on Donald Trump to remove the federal presence of ICE and border patrol officers from the state.
“Thank God we have video,” Walz told reporters, “because according to DHS, these seven heroic guys, it took an onslaught of a battalion against them or something. It’s nonsense, people. It’s nonsense, and it’s lies.”
The latest victim follows the fatal shooting of Renee Good earlier this month, and the detainment of a 5-year-old boy by ICE agents, amid Trump’s ongoing immigration crackdown.
