Kokurojo Trailer

Shochiku has revealed a first look teaser trailer for Kokurojo, the latest film made by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa. He already released his most recent film Cloud in theaters just last year and also filmed this. A gripping, large-scale psychological mystery set in the Warring States period, where the conflicting ambitions of various characters collide! A murder in the castle’s closed room and a series of bizarre incidents. The lord and his imprisoned genius strategist confront the mystery. Starring Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, Yuriko Yoshitaka, Takashi Aoki, Ryota Miyadate, Tasuku Emoto, and Joe Odagiri. Set during the Feudal era in Japan, this is Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s very first period piece feature film. This looks like an intense and thrilling tale set in the past. Shochiku will give it a road tour release in Japan first this year and this will probably show up at other film festivals around the world later. Get a look below.

Kokurojo Poster

Arakura Murashige (Masahiro Motoki) rebels against tyrannical methods of Oda Nobunaga and executes a siege strategy. The castle is surrounded by Oda forces, isolated and without aid. While restraining his impassioned retainers within the castle, Murashige struggles to protect the castle and its people, finding solace in his wife, Chiyobo (Yuriko Yoshitaka). A boy is murdered inside the castle. After that, strange incidents occur one after another. The suspects are the retainers and family members trapped within the castle, now a locked room. Outside the castle walls lay enemy forces. Within, lurked potential traitors. As suspicion and paranoia spread, Murashige teams up with the dangerous genius strategist Kuroda Kanbei (Masaki Suda), imprisoned in the castle dungeon, to solve the mystery. What is the shocking truth behind these events? Kokurojo is written & directed by prolific Japanese filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa, director of many films including Sweet Home, Cure, License to Live, Charisma, Pulse, Bright Future, Doppelganger, Retribution, Tokyo Sonata, Real, Seventh Code, Journey to the Shore, Creepy, Daguerrotype, Before We Vanish, To the Ends of the Earth, Wife of a Spy, Chime, Serpent’s Path, and Cloud previously. Based on Honobu Yonezawa’s “Kurojō” book. Kurosawa’s Kokurojo movie will be released later in 2026 starting in Japan first. Stay tuned for more updates & exact release info coming later this year. Look any good so far?
