John Dwyer Shares OSEES EP Cara Maluco, Damaged Bug Song

I wonder if psychedelic garage rock overlord John Dwyer can keep all of his projects straight in his mind. He definitely doesn’t make it easy for anyone else. Dwyer releases a lot of music under a lot of different names, and two of his projects, OSEES and Damaged Bug, have new tracks out today.

OSEES, Dwyer’s flagship band, released the sick album Abomination Revealed At Last last year. Today, they’ve shared a new EP called Cara Maluco, which arrives with zero advance notice and very little information attached. They just dropped four new tracks on Bandcamp, and those four tracks will be available on a single-sided 12″ EP with an etched B-side. The Rock Is Hell website describes the new tracks as “a couple fried trippers and couple tight dance punk numbers.” I’m listening for the first time right now, and the seven-minute title track definitely ears the “field tripper” designation. They’re going deep into the stoner-rock zone on that one. Stream the EP below.

And then there’s Damaged Bug. Later this month, Dwyer’s solo project will release a new album called ZUZAX, and we’ve already posted lead single “End Of The War.” Today, he shares a new track called “Over-exposed.” It’s a blissed-drunk space-out with a whole lot of saxophone, and I hear echoes of Berlin-era Bowie. In a press release, Dwyer says, “‘Over-exposed’ is about keeping your chin up in the tumult. Not to sell yourself for nothing and to take a breath. Everyone is lost right now. Stay strong and know who the enemy is. They are smiling while burning the world.” Check it out below.

The Cara Maluco EP is out now on Deathgod Corp, and ZUZAX is out 3/20 on the same label.
