HBO’s Harry Potter Series Officially Confirms 21 New Cast Members

HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series has added a huge new wave of Hogwarts students as production on the first season continues to move toward the finish line. The latest casting update fills out all four houses with several familiar names from Harry Potter’s year and the wider Hogwarts student body, giving fans a much clearer look at who will be roaming the halls when the series debuts in 2027.

Among the newly announced Gryffindors, Orson Matthews will play Oliver Wood, with Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Alicia Spinnet. Ethan Smith has also joined the cast as Lee Jordan. Over in Hufflepuff, India Moon will play Hannah Abbott, James Trevelyan Buckle is Justin Finch-Fletchley, Cian Eagle-Service has been cast as Ernie MacMillan, and Jazmyn Lewin will play Susan Bones.

Ravenclaw is adding Anjula Murali as Padma Patil, Aaron Zhao as Terry Boot, Scarlett Archer as Penelope Clearwater, and Eve Walls as Lisa Turpin. Slytherin is also getting a major expansion, with Oliver Croft cast as Marcus Flint, D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu as Graham Montague, Dylan Heath as Adrian Pucey, Cornelius Brandreth as Terence Higgs, Eddison Burch as Miles Bletchley, James Dowell as Lucian Bole, Henry Medhurst as Peregrine Derrick, and Laila Barwick as Pansy Parkinson.

That latest announcement helps round out an already buzzy main ensemble. HBO’s Harry Potter series also stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy.

Daylight Saving Time — The Collider Movie Quiz!

Daylight Saving Time starts this weekend. Before we lose an hour of sleep, here’s a quiz about movie titles that contain Daylight, Saving, or Time.

What Can We Expect From HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’?

One of the more interesting reveals from a recent interview by Flynn is that Lucius will show up in the first season, even though the character barely factors into the events of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. “I’m basically not in the first book. Lucius is hardly in book one at all, but I’m in the first series,” Flynn explained.

That little tease suggests HBO’s adaptation may already be thinking beyond a strict page-to-screen translation, or at the very least finding new ways to seed important characters earlier into the story. Lucius doesn’t become a major on-screen force until later in the original franchise, so giving him a presence in Season 1 could help the show start building the Malfoy family dynamic from the jump.

Flynn also had a fun response to recent praise from his younger co-star Pratt, who said the actor had “a lot of aura.” Flynn admitted he needed some help decoding that compliment. “I had to ask my kids what that meant because I had no idea,” he said with a laugh. “Apparently it is [a good thing], yeah. I’m really chuffed to be aura.”

Harry Potter is set to debut in 2027 and will stream on HBO Max. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates
