‘Scream 7’ Ghostface Actor Took It “As A Compliment” Being Cast As Killer

SPOILERS: This post contains details about Scream 7, including the killers’ identities

As Neve Campbell returns for another bloodbath as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7, the ‘final girl’ takes on another mysterious Ghostface.

In the Kevin Williamson-helmed seventh installment of the slasher franchise, which he launched in 1996 as writer with director Wes Craven, Sidney is living a peaceful small-town life far away from Woodsboro and the trauma it holds.

With her cop husband Mark Evans (Joel McHale) and teen daughter Tatum (Isabel May), Sidney finds herself the target of another masked killer, who attempts to convince her that he’s Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), one of the original Ghostfaces she thought she killed.

But the grand finale reveals that the real killers used AI deepfakes to taunt Sidney while killing off her daughter’s friends.

The mastermind behind this round of Ghostface attacks is revealed to be Jessica Bowden (Anna Camp), Sid’s next door neighbor and best friend, who became obsessed with her after Sidney’s book Out of Darkness encouraged her to kill her abusive husband.

But when Sidney wasn’t present at the New York killings in Scream VI (2023), which Campbell sat out over a pay dispute, Jessica felt abandoned. She checked herself into a mental health facility, where she hatched a plan for the killings with hospital staffer Marco (Ethan Embry) and fellow patient Karl (Kraig Dane).

In November, Camp caught up with Deadline at the OUT100 celebration, where we accurately guessed she would be revealed as the killer.

“A lot of people are saying that,” said Camp. “I can’t obviously say anything, but I will take that kind of as a compliment, because that role is definitely for somebody who has to be able to bring the whole movie home. So, I take that as a compliment.”

Now playing in theaters, Scream 7 stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Scott Foley, Matthew Lillard, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, as well as newcomers Joel McHale, Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos and Ethan Embry.
