Thundercat Shares “I Did This To Myself” From New Album ‘Distracted’

Thundercat has kept his schedule packed with so many other projects — most recently appearing on A$AP Rocky’s Don’t Be Dumb — that it’s easy to forget it’s been nearly six years since his last solo album. He’ll close that gap this April with Distracted, an LP with a laundry list of star guest appearances like Rocky, Tame Impala, Channel Tres, Willow, the late Mac Miller, and Lil Yachty, who features on today’s lead single “I Did This To Myself.”

Thundercat teamed up with pop superproducer Greg Kurstin for Distracted, which features additional production from Flying Lotus, Kenneth Blume, and the Lemon Twigs. “I Did This To Myself” has the lush, hi-fi feel you’d expect, but I’m distracted by some truly awful lyrics: “You a weird chick, you like crystals and shit,” Thundercat says to a “bad bitch” who isn’t paying him enough attention. Later, Yachty chimes in: “Bitch, stop actin’ like you got a real job/ Bitch, that’s not a real job/ Takin’ those pics in a bra shouldn’t jam your schedule.” Fuck that shit. But at least the bass line is groovy or whatever. Listen to “I Did This To Myself” and see the full Distracted tracklist below.
