NBA Postpones Game After Fatal ICE Shooting in Minneapolis

The NBA has postponed a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors after a man was fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday.

“The National Basketball Association game scheduled for today between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center has been postponed,” read a statement posted on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Instagram page. “The decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community.”

The game, originally set for air Saturday on ABC, was pushed to Sunday at 4:30 p.m. CT and will debut on NBA TV.

Minnesota residents have been locked in days-long protests against the presence of ICE agents in the state. A nationwide crackdown on immigration has been a focal point of Donald Trump’s second term.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has repeatedly condemned the presence of ICE in his state. Today, he told the New York Times of the incident, “They killed a man, created chaos, pushed down protesters, threw gas indiscriminately and then we’re left to clean up.”

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump was quick to blame Gov. Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fey for the chaos, claiming that they are “inciting insurrection” to distract from the state’s recent social service fraud investigation.

“The Mayor and the Governor are inciting Insurrection, with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric,” he wrote. “Instead, these sanctimonious political fools should be looking for the Billions of Dollars that has been stolen from the people of Minnesota, and the United States of America. LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!”
