Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski’s Forgotten Fantasy Movie Finally Finds Global Streaming Success

After terrifying the fandom with sound-sensitive aliens with the A Quiet Place franchise, John Krasinski directed a light-hearted feature that fuses lovable creatures with the real world in IF. The fantastical feature, led by Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds, wasn’t a big box office hit but has found an audience on streaming, and now it’s drawing global viewership.

IF has risen to third place in Paramount+’s global top 10 charts, as per FlixPatrol. The movie only stands behind Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which has been a crown jewel of the streamer’s top 10 charts, and Liam Neeson’s The Naked Gun reboot, which is wildly funny. Also on the charts are Henry Cavill’s Night Hunter, High Ground, The Substance, and more. IF follows 12-year-old Bea (Cailey Fleming), who is staying with her grandmother (Fiona Shaw) while her father (John Krasinski) awaits heart surgery. With the help of her neighbor, Cal (Reynolds), Bea discovers she can see ‘IFs’ aka imaginary friends who have been forgotten by the children who created them. The movie received mixed reviews upon its release, grossing $190.3 million on a $110 million budget.

The mixed response is reflected in its Rotten Tomatoes score: 51% from critics and 85% from audiences. With its CGI mixed with a live-action approach, the movie featured a massive voice cast, including Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim, Liza Colón-Zayas, Bobby Moynihan, Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Catharine Daddario, Emily Blunt, and many more.

John Krasinski Will Return To Direct ‘A Quiet Place 3’

While Krasinski has a lot on his plate, fans have been eagerly waiting for a third installment in A Quiet Place franchise. With the advent of some great horror stories in the last few years, the appetite for another film is aplenty. It was announced last year that Krasinski will return to write, direct, and produce the upcoming installment. However, no further details have been revealed yet. The sequel will mark the fourth installment in the franchise, which grossed over $900 million globally. That includes 2018’s A Quiet Place and 2021’s A Quiet Place Part II, both directed by Krasinski, and the 2024 prequel A Quiet Place: Day One helmed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn. On the acting front, Krasinski will also be seen as the globetrotting spy in Amazon’s Jack Ryan movie and the Silent River TV series.

Meanwhile, IF is streaming on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
