“Tween” by Photographer Oliver Raschka

A series navigating today’s generation of teenagers by photographer Oliver Raschka. Raschka once again chronicles the lives of his own sons, only this time traversing the labyrinth of puberty and brotherhood that marks their transition to adulthood. “Tween” explores this intense period in sixty black and white photographs taken between 2020 and 2023—years that coincide with the COVID-19 pandemic. In this way, not only are the young men struggling within themselves, they are also grappling with the challenges we were all facing during those years: a war in the heart of Europe, school closures and lockdowns, climate anxiety, and the growing sense that nothing in this life is guaranteed. Balancing between separation and intimacy, change and continuity, restlessness and stillness, Raschka’s long-term documentary project captures everyday scenes where nothing is staged and everything rings true. Tween has been published via BummBumm Books.
